Described as "Fred Astaire on the Fretboard", Shane Simpson has dedicated himself to the craft of guitar playing for 20 years. A trained jazz musician, Shane has experimented with a wide range of styles over this time, and in the Fall of 2000 Shane entered the studio to record his debut CD "Sketches", a compilation of rootsy, bluesy acoustic rock songs.
The radical departure was spurred by a change in guitars, "I bought a beautiful acoustic guitar and started strumming songs out on the patio", explains Simpson. "The result is that I've really returned to my roots, where music is once again about the delivery of a sentiment as opposed to athletic instrumentalism."
Early audience response suggests Shane has struck a chord with his efforts. Listeners have been quick to point out that the art of storytelling is alive and well in Shane's music. With a bluesy vocal style that has brought comparisons to Bob Seger and Jim Cuddy, the result is a unique blend of acoustic-guitar driven songs that combine soulful melodies with virtuoso guitar playing.
