...pop classics, ballads, light jazz & country
Brockville/Athens, Ontario, Canada
member since: May 20, 2004
Les is an experienced, versatile singer, guitarist and bass player with roots in traditional country, folk, blues and light rock music. He demonstrates solid ownership of the cover songs in his broad spectrum repertoire, spanning genres from pop classics, to light jazz, folk and country. His vocals are smooth and clean and invariably provide easy listening for all his audiences.
Influences include Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor,Carole King, Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Jackson Browne and traditional country legends such as Ray Price and Willy Nelson.
Les' musical origins date back to his childhood and teenage years in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. At the age of six he learned to play ukulele and as a teenager, he started playing for local dances (by this time, it was electric bass guitar) along with his brother and other local musicians. By age 16, he was playing bass guitar and providing vocals for a country trio who played local venues, as well as an exciting, brief debut week at the Times Square Cafe in Montreal.
Les launched the latest segment of his music career in the Brockville-Kingston region a couple of years ago.
The summer of 2007 was a busy one as he performed singles regularly at the Brockberry (Brockville), Sam Jakes Inn (Merrickville) the Serendipity Bistro (Merrickville)and The Acoustic Grill (Picton), as well as exciting duos with Kevin Davidson on fiddle, vocals and 12-string, at numerous venues throughout the Kingston region.
ON JANUARY 26, 2008, Les & Kevin (fiddle) provided the "Opening Act" for the "Sneezy Waters Concert" at the Joshua Bates Centre in Athens, ON.. This was a well-received performance and provided an exciting start to the 2008 line up of shows. Les and Kevin have hosted a fast growing open mic night at Paddy's Pub and Irish Eatery in Gananoque (Stone and Water Sts.)since June 2008. These Thursday night open mics have become standing room only events with a number of young musicians and singers getting on board. It has been a very enjoyable experience!!!
